Lahm Bahjeen (mini meat pies)

INGREDIENTS NEEDED

Dough:

  • 4 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups of warm water
  • 1 cup of warm mail
  • 1 tsp of white sugar
  • ½  tsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of yeast
  • ½ cup of olive oil

Filling:

  • 1 ½ lbs  ground beef or lamb
  • 1 large onion finely minced
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp of chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp of  black pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes

PREPERATOIN:

  • In a bowl mix warm milk with sugar and yeast and set aside for 5 minutes.  Then add flour, salt and oil and  knead to form dough, cover and let rise approximately 1 hour in a warm place.
  • Divide the dough into 24 small pieces the size of a plum and roll in a ball.
  • In a bowl mix all the filling ingredients together (beef, tomato, onions, salt, black pepper and red pepper flakes) .
  • Add one tablespoon of the meat mixture in the center of dough. Gather the corners and pinch together each end (will end up with four pointed ends).   Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  • Served with a bowl of yogurt for dipping.

The meat goes raw into the pastry?

Yes the meat mixture is raw and it will be cooked while baking in oven. Enjoy!
